3 Mesothelioma Treatment Options

It's always difficult if you or one of your family members diagnosed any kind of health problems especially if it was related to cancer because such problem is an aggressive malignancy, patients and their families may have a difficult time addressing the issue of treatment.

Since I've already discussed on this blog the main cause of having Malignant Mesothelioma, a rare form of cancer that develops from the protective lining that covers many of the body's internal organs, and due to it's steadily increasing number of patients, the discussion of treatment with one’s primary oncologist, family members, and loved ones is important. Nearly all mesothelioma patients have treatment options; be they curative or palliative that can extend survival, alleviate pain, or increase quality of life.

Cancer treatment usually focuses upon destroying malignant cells and preserving healthy ones. Saving of cell tissues is very important to any cancer patient. There are three types of primary mechanism that's typically utilize for a cancer patient as part of mesothelioma treatment. Either surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy, or some combination of the three are considered the most effective for the treatment of malignant mesothelioma.
The course of treatment to any cancer patient are heavily depends on the size of the tumor and its location to the internal body of the patient, how malignant it was and how curable it is.

0 Asbestos: The major risk factor for Mesothelioma

I've been reading different articles on how we can abort to exposed in mesothelioma cancer or also known as malignant mesothelioma. It's a rare form of cancer that develops from the protective lining that covers many of the body's internal organs, the mesothelium. Based on the research, the main caused of having malignant mesothelioma is being exposed in any form of asbestos, a set of six naturally occurring silicate minerals exploited commercially for their desirable physical properties.

Most people who develop mesothelioma have worked on jobs where they inhaled asbestos, or they have been exposed to amphibole asbestos dust and fiber in other ways.  It has also been suggested that washing the clothes of a family member who worked with asbestos can put a person at risk for developing mesothelioma. However, mesothelioma has been reported in some individuals without any known exposure to asbestos. In rare cases, mesothelioma has also been associated with irradiation, intra-pleural thorium dioxide, and inhalation of other fibrous silicates, such as erionite.

The symptoms of mesothelioma include shortness of breath due to pleural effusion (fluid between the lung and the chest wall) or chest wall pain, and general symptoms such as weight loss. The diagnosis may be suspected with chest X-ray and CT scan, and is confirmed with a biopsy (tissue sample) and microscopic examination.
